SEALS AND SEALING ELEMENTS
Static seals and sealing elements
Static gaskets in various cross-sections made of solid plastics, especially for sealing pipes and fittings, have proven themselves in many cases.
Due to their outstanding resistance to chemicals, fluoroplastics and polyaryletherketones are mainly used. In addition, polyamides and polyacetals are often used for lower thermal loads. Polyethylenes can even be used for very low loads.
We recommend the following plastics for low thermal and mechanical stress and for low requirements on chemical resistance:
Fluoroplastics are suitable for extreme demands on chemical resistance as well as for high operating temperatures but only relatively low mechanical stress:
Polyaryletherketones are particularly recommended for high demands on temperature and chemical resistance and for increased mechanical stress:
- Victrex® PEEK™– for increased temperatures and higher mechanical stress
- Victrex® HT (PEK) – for increased temperatures and heavy mechanical stress
- Victrex® PAEK– for increased temperatures and even higher mechanical stress
Polyimides (PI and PAI) can be used for lower demands on corrosion and hydrolysis resistance, but at the same time high mechanical and thermal loads, as they occur in hydraulic or vacuum systems, for example.
- Torlon® 4203 (PAI) – for increased temperatures and extreme mechanical loads
- Torlon® 5030 (PAI GF) – for increased temperatures and maximum mechanical loads
- Vespel® SP 1 (PI) – for extreme temperatures and high mechanical stress
- Vespel® SCP 5000 (PI) – for extreme temperatures and high mechanical stress
