POLYOLEFINS
Polyolefins (PE, PP)
Polyolefins are semi-crystalline plastics with good chemical resistance and electrical insulation properties. They are the world's most widely produced plastics and used for all kinds of mass applications.
As technical or "engineering plastics", they can only be used to a limited extent due to their limited mechanical properties. As extruded or pressed semi-finished products, however, they have better mechanical properties than the injection-molded polyolefins and are therefore nevertheless more frequently used for technical applications.
Polyolefins include both polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE). The two best-known types of polyolefin have - apart from their chemical resistance already mentioned above - a low density of less than 1g/cm3 in common. In each quality there are different types optimized for certain areas of application.
