Dynamic seals and sealing elements

Due to the special load requirements, engineering plastics are rarely used for dynamic seals. If at all, modified types are used.

Due to their higher temperature resistance, high-performance plastics can be better used as dynamic seals. Especially the tribologically optimised high-performance plastics are well suited for this.

The materials listed below have been successfully used in many sealing applications in addition to the fluoroplastics and polyaryletherketones already mentioned.

Fluorosint® HPV – for contact with food with increased p x v values

Fluorosint® MT-01 – - highest compressive strength of all PTFE types

Victrex® PEEK FC30 – for higher temperatures and higher loads

Victrex® PEEK CF30 – for high compressive strength and low expansion

Ketron® HPV – for higher loads with BAM approval for O2 contact

Torlon® 4301/4503 – - for high temperatures and extreme mechanical loads

Torlon® 4435 – for high p x v loads

Torlon® 7130 – for highest compressive strength and lowest expansion

Vespel® SP 21 – for high temperatures and high mechanical stress

Vespel® SP 211 – for high temperatures and good sliding properties

Vespel® SP 22 – - for highest temperatures and lowest expansion

Vespel® SCP 5050 – for extreme temperatures and highest strength

Vespel® SCP 50094 – - for extreme temperatures and good sliding properties

The selection of the suitable types requires a detailed examination of the requirements and the material properties. In the case of the material properties, in addition to the mechanical properties, the chemical resistance must also be examined, as this can be reduced in the case of filled materials and especially polyimide-based high-performance plastics (PI and PAI).
