POLYAMIDE 12
Polyamide 12
Polyamide 12 (PA 12) is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic with the lowest water absorption of all polyamides. It is characterized by high toughness and comparatively good chemical resistance. PA 12 is therefore ideal for bearings and drive elements in humid environments where high dimensional stability is required.
In terms of strength and hardness, however, PA 12 falls behind the types based on PA 6 or PA 6.6. To improve the strength, a modification reinfored with 30% glass fiber - PA 12-GF30 - is available on request.
Like PA 6, PA 12 can also be processed by casting. For this purpose laurinactam base units polymerized to melt PA 12 G, which was then polymerized with the aid of catalysts. In this way, semi-finished products or components with a simple geometry can be manufactured in sizes and wall thicknesses that are unusual for plastics. Advantages are the higher molecular weight which improves stiffness and toughness, and a lower stress content. PA 12 G is particularly suitable for cast steel parts (PA 12 G with steel core).
Main features
- low water absorption
- high impact strength
- heat resistant up to 50°C
The types listed below are available as standard. Other special qualities and color variants are available on request, but usually bound to minimum quantities.
