Material release
In principle, all plastics can be considered as materials for use in aerospace technology. High-performance plastics are particularly recommended for applications that are subject to higher mechanical and thermal stress. In many cases, it is of great importance whether the individual materials have also been approved for the corresponding application by the users, i.e. the aircraft industry.
Ultimately, however, material approval can only be granted by the companies authorised to develop and design aeronautical engineering. Frequently, extensive tests must precede use in order to prove the suitability of the corresponding plastic in the application. On this basis, manufacturers and system suppliers in the aerospace industry have developed material norms and standards, in some cases in cooperation with national and international standards institutes. Some norms and standards for high-performance plastics are listed below.
