September 17, 2020 - At this year's “Azubi Social Day” in Bergisch Gladbach numerous apprentices committed themselves to a good cause. The young women and men were given a day off from their companies to support various non-profit organizations in a wide variety of ways.
The "Azubi Social Day" is organized as part of the Industrieakzeptanzoffensive from the Cologne Chamber of Industry and Commerce. Industrial companies, industry-related service providers and trading companies want to use the "Azubi Social Day" not only to show practical support, but also show solidarity between industry and trade with the region and the people there. This also includes the good future prospects for young people who open up dual training at companies in the region.

“In these difficult days for the business and society, volunteer work is more important than ever. The "Azubi Social Day" is such a bright spot. Local industry has shown that it takes responsibility and is committed to its neighborhood. For the apprentices, the day has a very special added value: they learn social skills and have fun doing it, ”says Frank Hemig, Deputy General Manager of the Cologne Chamber of Commerce.
The "Azubi Social Day" took place simultaneously in Bergisch Gladbach and in the Oberberger Kreis under the motto "In|DU|strie Azubis engagiert". A total of 75 apprentices from 16 industrial or industry-related companies ( 57 trainees from 14 companies in Bergisch Gladbach, and 18 trainees from 2 companies in Oberberg) supported charitable institutions in the region. The Cologne Chamber of Industry and Commerce itself is also represented by three apprentices. In Bergisch Gladbach it is already the fifth Azubi Social Day, the Oberberg district is participating for the third time.
After 89 apprentices from 16 companies were involved in Azubi Social Day at 15 social institutions last year, renovating rooms, repairing playground equipment or even playing and doing gymnastics with children, the commitment was more limited in 2020 due to Corona regulations. "We are all the more pleased that the day can take place at all and that the young people can show and expand their social skills, team spirit and caring. Strengths that are not only valuable in days like these," Hemig said.
